Want to Move to the West Volusia Area?

Here Are 7 Reasons to Choose Our Area!

By Kelsey Smith- Publisher of Macaroni Kid Deltona-West Volusia April 2, 2025

West Volusia is a more suburban area of Volusia County. Located between Central Florida and the East Coast, West Volusia gives you a great balance of rural and city life, with the tourist area and beaches a short drive away!

I have been a resident of West Volusia since 2019, and have seen the growth this area has. Even with the constantly growing population, coming from Seminole County, West Volusia (and DeBary specifically) has kept its small-town feel.

🌴 1. Laid-back Florida Lifestyle without the Crowds

West Volusia offers the perks of Florida living—sunshine, palm trees, and outdoor living—without the heavy tourism or congestion of places like Orlando or Miami. Even during busy weeks like Bike Week, West Volusia remains the calmer part of Volusia.

🏡 2. Charming Small Towns & Historic Districts

Towns like DeLand, DeBary, Orange City, and Deltona give you that welcoming, small-town feel. According to Niche; DeLand is #1 on their "Best Places to Live in Volusia County", other cities like Debary (#3), West DeLand (#10), DeLeon Springs (#12), Deltona (#13), and Lake Helen (#15) are all in the top 15!

🎓 3. Home to Stetson University

DeLand is home to Stetson University, a top-ranked regional university in the South by U.S. News & World Report for 2025. Stetson offers sports, community events, and resources to the public.

🌳 4. Access to Nature and Outdoor Fun

If you love the outdoors, you're in luck. You’ll find:

  • Blue Spring State Park – manatee viewing in winter, swimming in summer
  • Hontoon Island State Park – perfect for kayaking, hiking, and exploring
  • De Leon Springs – pancake breakfasts and natural springs

🚗 5. Great Location

  • About 30 minutes to Daytona Beach
  • About 45 minutes to Orlando
  • You get the best of both worlds: easy access to attractions without the price tag or pace.
  • SunRail Station is located in DeLand and DeBary.

💸 6. More Affordable Than Coastal or Metro Areas

Home prices and the general cost of living in West Volusia are typically more affordable than areas like Orlando, while still offering quality neighborhoods and amenities. Get more for your money, there are more options for land and larger lots in the area!

🎭 7. Strong Sense of Community & Local Events

There’s always something going on—from farmers markets and festivals to art walks and parades. Locals are proud of their towns and love showing up for community events. Remember to check our calendar to keep up with everything West Volusia has to offer!
